WE-ARE-AWESOME FEATURING... ME.

Andrew Berry snapped a picture of me on the streets last week and followed it up with a little interview for his "Fashion Faces" page on We-Are-Awesome. You can catch fellow blogger Maketh Man, among others, on there too. This is a good place to start if you want to know the who's who of fashion in Cape town. Click here to take a look!

I try read a lot of the blogs online. I'm always stumbling on something new and interesting but not often have I found myself looking at a screen for 40 minutes and realizing I have places to be. Such was the case with picture blog "This is not new" with their long spread of inspiring and beautiful images. I have quite a a large collection of images myself but posting them was never part of this blogs M.O.

Take a look here for THIS IS NOT NEW and my buddy Andrew Brauteseth's picture blog LIFE LOVE LENSES while you're at it.

BLOG ALERT: JOSEPH TURVEY

Joseph Turvey is blogging his way through his Masters in fashion design. The part that I enjoy so much  is his beautiful selection of illustrations. Plus, he loves gingham as much as I do.

BLOG ALERT: THE ART OF MANLINESS

If you are a regular reader of this blog (gracias) then you may have caught on to the fact that Man of the Cloth is all about the modern gentleman and the revival of his etiquette, manners and attention to detail. I recently came across a blog dedicated to just that called 'The Art of Manliness'.

The blogs creator focuses on all the topic you may want to improve on from Money & CareerRelationships and Grooming plus a whole batch of other interesting reads from an older generations perspective. He even published a book by the same name and you can find out more about purchasing a copy on his blog.

BLOG ALERT: PORTRAIT OF A NATION

Photobucket

I was very honored at the beginning of last week to be photographed by Andrew Brauteseth. You may also know him by his other name "guy with camera". He was voted best photographic blog at the recent 2010 Blog Awards, his campaigns, editorials and shoots are in all the major local magazines and still he finds time to surf.

He started a project he calls "A portrait of a nation". He has long list of local personalities and figures, equally as long are the names he has already photographed for the series. Bloggers, entrepreneurs, politicians, comedians and regular people feature. So please do take a look at this wonderful series.

We went out onto the streets of Cape Town to take a snap of me ironing while smoking a cigarette. Andrew likes his subjects to smoke. He likes his images quirky and to place the models in out of context areas. Which is what we did. It was windy, to say the least. This was to be the original concept of the photo shoot but we later ended up in his studio where he chose my sacred anchor to make the shoot more intimate.

Bloggers meet at the Field Office

Photobucket
Last night I hurried from my blogging perch and threw on some decent clothing to attend the bloggers meet at The Field Office in Barrak street off Harrington. The event invited all local bloggers to attend and make nice with each other further proving that we are a new industry that can be a family. I have realized that we are all the founders of this Cape Town blog world and we may as well support each other because who knows where the next step takes us.

I met so many wonderful people that I have either corresponded with or followed on one social network or another. Beatnik Bazaar (Thaya) and I chatted for quite some time and this is after more than a year of reading her blog. I didn't take too many pictures because it's obvious the whole gang would be doing the same thing but here are a few from last nights successful blog-meet.

Robyn Cooke got the damn Le Creuset pot I wanted and the pretty blonde all the way at the bottom nabbed the side table I had my eye on for the raffle. Great fun and I look forward to meeting more of the local bloggers in the future!

Blog Alert: Nerd Boyfriend

Photobucket
I'm a fan of the quirky and not-so-normal. These images may seem weird or odd now but in their day this is how they dressed. Their blog aptly titled 'Nerd Boyfriend' sets out to post all the zany looking characters of yesteryear that include Dustin Hoffman, John Lennon and Martin Short among so many others, while including the items of clothing that can get you to dress like them. Thanks to Narrylikes for this one.  Go take a look over here.

Blog Alert: JONATHAN REID SEVIGNY

Photobucket

I don't often get THIS inspired from a blog, but when I do I tend to involve myself quite heavily in it for a particular time period. Jonathan Reid Sevigny is just so unbelievably talented.

His illustrations evoke a certain magic that is reminiscent of Salvadore Dali. Themed in childlike playfulness Sevigny still manages serious artwork, bankable artwork at that.

His work carries such candescence for me and I look forward to following him from here on out. I can see him illustrating for 'Coraline' and 'Corpse-Bride' themed movies. But to fully understand what I mean, have a look at his catalog HERE.

Great work! Below are just three of my favorite images from his website.

Mr Price Blog (In the Fashion Loop) asked me my three loves for the season and here they are! Although to be honest I could have gone on for hours about my current obsessions. Go have a look at their blog for some great posts.

Blog Alert: Street Etiquette

Comprised of two individuals who reside in the urban world of NYC, Street Etiquette is a parallel to the accepted meaning of Etiquette. Etiquette is described as proprieties of conduct established in any class or community or for any occasion. Their community is the urban areas New York City full of eccentricity, originality and diversity. Their Street Etiquette is their love for HipHop, Hood Art (graffiti) and most of all their love for incorporating different styles of fashion into their urban style.

We are Awesome: Why yes, yes you are!

I guess these guys just know where to be at the right time. Once again I am loving what the team at WE-ARE-AWESOME are coming up with. Below is a photograph of a gent in Kloof street that they snapped up. Awesome all over if you ask me.

Personal Style: Andreas Stil

Photobucket

I am all for personal style. Even Ugly Betty has one, and we love her for it. I'm also a fan of photo-blogs of what you wear in your day-to-day. We are so diverse and complex as human beings that our clothing should be an extension of who we are. It already does... in case you were wondering.

I always appreciate the photographs that Jane posted on her Blog 'Sea of Shoes' but without her mothers huge collection of $400+ shoes it wouldn't be as fun to read for some. I don't post daily snaps for this very reason. Sure, my shoe collection is pretty damn awesome for my age but I don't have 300 looks a month to post. It would bore you, and it would bore me.

But Andreas Stil of Sweden, who doubles up as blog-model and Pop-idol contestant doesn't believe this of himself. His shrine to himself photo's capture him quite frequently in his digs and let's just be honest with ourselves and appreciate it for what it is. He's one of those gorgeous Swedes with great style and a couple items I'd love to own myself.

The photo's are beautifully taken, the subject is a natural in the setting and the clothing doesn't look styled or put-on. It's the kind of photographs I would take for an editorial.

With the above photo the success comes from the simplicity of it's execution. Rolled up below the elbow, vintage jacket you can buy for R200 on Long Street, simple slim leg black pants, low necked tee-shirt and rolled up boots. It's that easy.

Fine and Dandy Indeedy!

Photobucket

You may be familiar with their blog Fine and Dandy. I had another look after a long while and saw something very cool that got my attention. In a time when we really are reaching into the closet as deep as we can, it comes as no surprise that Tie clips would too return.

Luckily it has a function other than looking nice-- which I think the men out there will appreciate. You won't have to call the waiter to tell him there's a tie in your soup!

The gold key Tie bar which is fantastic can be found here.

1001 Rules for my unborn Son

Photobucket

So refreshing, a great read and a perfect coffee table piece for all you boys out there. Perhaps it's even a good idea to freshen up on some of these rules for yourself!

Follow the blog by the same name here!

If you enjoy Walker Lamond's book you will probably enjoy MR. JONE'S RULES for the Modern Man too by Dylan Jones.

Blog Alert: Fashion Photography blog

Mellisa Rodwell of the local based Fashion Photography Blog gives us fashion minded voyeurs a look behind the lens, while giving us all those necessary and juicy tips other photogs probably wouldn't divulge so easily. And for that she can get my kudos! I know what it's like to work on fashion and commercial sets and it can get quite hectic, Mrs. Rodwell shows it how it is adding that little something extra.

Go take a look!

Blog Alert -Kate Loves Me

Model turned Actress - well we've seen that. Model turned singer? Tyra Banks ruined that for us, and now model turned Blogger: Peyalo Diaz and his mega blog "KATE LOVES ME". It includes thousands of photographs with an Espanol write up on each, but we love it anyway. It really gives us a look at what life must be like for such a boy.

We could hate him purely on his beautiful chiselled looks and all the places he gets to see year round but the main reason (aside from the free gifts he gets from designers like Vivienne Westwood) would be his friendship with Dean and Dan! Known for their use of uber-sexy models it's quite a compliment for Mr.Diaz to be a part of their line up for Dsquared.

You have to give it to him, he may be pretty but it's all in the name of fashion and entertainment.Click HERE for the experience.

Blog Alert

These are just a couple of the pics I found on THIS site called We could grow up together. I especially liked these black and white shots, whether or not they were the professional shots or taken by the blogger is irrelevant, they're very cool! Loads more on the site!
