SA BLOG AWARDS 2010

Photobucket
With the public voting officially over, and with Robyn Cooke locked in as one of two finalists for the "Best Fashion Blog" award at the SA Blog Awards, we did as expected and made the effort to dress up and find out who won. Building up to this day there was blog plugging, friendly requests and even campaigns to get people to sit down and cast their votes for the top blogs in their respective categories. Some needed help and others didn't even need to lift a finger to get in. But either way we assembled into the One and Only and mingled with the best of the blogging world.

The ceremony itself was enjoyable, with a host of speeches which included that of Helen Zille and it ran smoothly apart from a blunder with a blank envelope when the best new blog was announced. There are a lot of opinions on the blog awards but it is a fairly young project and I expect it will grow into the large, respected summit of the blogging world it deserves to be.

Snapshots of a Perfect Weekend

The 'Indian Summer' finally came this weekend and it was everything I wanted and more. I captured just a couple of my favorite moments knowing it will soon be 60 degrees again. Hope you all had as much fun as I did...

Country Road Spring 2011 Campaign feat. Vincent Lacrocq & Niels Raabe by Daniel Jackson

Photobucket

With a whole new range already in store locally, Country Road released their Spring 2011 campaign photographed by Daniel Jackson. Niels Raabe (German not South African oddly enough) models alongside Jeisa Chiminazzo, Julia Hafstrom and Ieva Laguna. Country Road's latest images even include that green safari shirt I am coveting!

Go take a look at their new collection, it's pretty great!

Friday Fashion Face-off feat. Penn Badgley and Blake Lively

Photobucket

BLAKE LIVELY
ROBYN
This is the fashion 'it' girl of the moment. Promoting her new film, Town, she has not put a foot wrong. And this dress by Antonio Berardi is no exception. With a simplicity that hints at Victoria Beckham, this is the perfect dress for a girl previously known as Boobs Legsly to show that she is growing up into a certifiable style star.

MARCO
I've always favored old lip-biter's red carpet style to Leighton Meesters. She embraces her athletic build and curves with figure hugging dresses and the right amount of accessory. Certainly one way of gaining Hollywood brownie points is to do as Blake Lively; please the men with the body and please the ladies with the outfit.

PENN BADGLEY
ROBYN

Ooookaaay. This is a risky kinda look. All tuxedo jacket and Caledonian Society reel tie. Does this outfit know what it is and where it is going? I like me a bit of Penn, and he does sit awfully well next to the lovely Ms Lively. But this outfit? I may just fast forward through this bit of the show. Sorry.
MARCO
Mmm...Because it's completely normal for a 17 year old to wear designer suiting. Dan (Penn Badgley)grabs a cup of joe before shooting scenes for Gossip Girl. I fear another dramatic quarrel at cottilion coming on. I love the lapels and the moody colouring but combined with that hair perhaps he may be looking a little like a sports commentator or similar.

Numero Homme feat. Jon Kortajarena

Photobucket
Numero Homme in their latest issue treat the ladies to a fall editorial featuring Jon Kortajarena. Liz Collins photographs the Español model in a tree and makes it look easy. Chunky knits, grandad tops and pleats. Almost makes me wish Winter was staying around a bit longer. I said Almost.

Fold-up Ray-Ban Wayfarers from Sunglass Hut

Photobucket
I guess it goes to show; some styles never go out of style. Or perhaps it can now we classified as "classic" as opposed to a style that is "trendy". Either way Ray-Ban Wayfarers were cool when Tom Cruise wore them in Risky Business and they're cool now.

Photobucket
I am a fan of trends but I avoid the more colourful variety that this particular style offers.  Neon Wayfarers are great if you can afford yourself the luxury of several pairs. Last year for my birthday I was given a pair of the black fold-up wayfarers with the small leather case. Thrilled, I then wore them solidly for a year before changing styles last month. Sunglass Hut then released a newer version in tortoise shell, which I finally got my hands on yesterday.
These are especially great because they literally fold up into a small piece that you can put (safely) into a shirt or jacket pocket. Retailing for only R1790 from Sunglass Hut.

The David Gandy Style Guide

Photobucket

Trust supermodel David Gandy to come up with this idea. An iPhone application he aptly calls the "The David Gandy StyleGuide" in which he aims to help the unfashionable or the fashionably timid learn a thing or two. Guess he has yet to hear of Man of the Cloth...

In other DG news, GQ.com just released a fantastic interview with the model going into some nice detail about his fashion loves and loathes.

The David Gandy Style Guide is available to download now from iTunes, priced £3.99. Read his blog on Vogue.com. davidgandystyleguide.com

Mickey Mouse fashion trend

Photobucket
"Who's the leader of the club... That's made for you and me? M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E"

We all recall our friendship with that large eared character from our younger days. Because not only was he thoroughly entertaining to that tiny six year old, but he was everything that that time stood for; innocence, all round goodness and some great T.V.

The icon that is Mitchell Mickey Mouse debuted alongside Minnie Mouse in 1928. Fast forward to 2010 and his unchanged face is still in our hearts... (and in some cases on our bodies).

Photobucket
It's hard to say where the fascination started but it happened and before you knew it, Mickey had returned in the form of fashion statements, accessories in big budget music videos and landed in some of your favorite high-street stores. Of course it all started when Lady Gaga appeared in her popular video for  'paparazzi' wearing the Jeremy Scott glasses. These are the same ones that would later be worn by Beyoncé in their 'telephone' video. It didn't take long before Rihanna followed suit with her newer tough-girl image and her own set of ears.

Supposedly the main reason Disney added the white gloves was to allow audiences to distinguish the characters' hands when they appeared against their black bodies. The three black lines on the backs of the gloves represent darts in the gloves' fabric extending from between the digits of the hand, typical of kid glove design of the era.

Having appeared vastly across the internet on blogs, famous bloggers and even celebrities (see Kelis below) it's a valid question to be asking you: Will you be joining the jamboree?

Palladium hair company - Cape Town

Photobucket

I don't trust just anyone to cut my hair. Believe me when I say that. There is a process and it may take me a few trims to get to the point where I'll let them do something drastic.

My first visit to the Palladium Hair Co. was a few months ago. I actually followed a stylist by the name of Abraham to his new home situated in the new Cape Quarter. I expected to get the same haircut I usually get with Abraham, but what I did not expect was such a fantastic service experience in addition to that.

Greeted by the lovely Helen at the door, I was then ushered to my seat and handed a Peroni. Yes gentleman, you heard me. A Peroni.

Having enjoyed several Manicures and Pedicures from Angela I can vouch for the fact that it's no longer a woman's experience. Taking all the frou-frou out of the equation and turning it into a relaxing and comfortable experience and adding a cool beverage makes it completely appropriate for men. And if you don't believe me, go ask them who they 'mani and pedi' the most! You'll be surprised.

What surprises me the most is the abundance of genuine smiles and conversations. I have been getting my hair styled for many years now and I've never experienced this.

Call Helen now @ 021 418 2242/3 to book an appointment.
