Fashion isn't always a self-serving machine. We enjoy looking and feeling good in what we wear but we all go to our homes at the end of the day and understand there are more important things to worry about. In South Africa especially, the vast collection of need is on our doorstep. Organizations like Positive Heroes aim to combine something we love with something we want to help change.
On Thursday evening I attended the Positive Heroes fashion show and auction at the Cape Town station. Yes, the station. And with all the recent renovations it was actually quite the location.
Guests in attendance included Helen Zille, our current city Mayor Dan Plato as well as fashion editors, stylists, designers and of course bloggers. After the fashion show, which gave us a preview of Stiaan Louw's upcoming collection as well as some of the looks from Viyella and Carducci, it was time for the auction itself. The R160 000 raised "will go towards our current initiatives, including the Positive Heroes ultra-marathon team, a group of five HIV+ runners that are everyone's heroes," says Sue Wildish, Programme Manager for Positive Heroes.
